Huntington, WV (HNN) – Local merchants have joined together to support United Way of the River Cities in “Out on the Town with United Way”.

September 9 – 12, 2010, local merchants in the Huntington area will make a contribution to these efforts and/or donate a percentage of their sales from those days to United Way of the River Cities.

“This event is a wonderful partnership between local business and United Way,” said Laura Gilliam, Executive Director, United Way of the River Cities. “We see this as a win-win for the businesses that participate and for United Way. Ultimately, the community wins because the monies donated to United Way go back into the community to help people in crisis and to create long-term solutions to critical community issues.”

Merchants that are interested in joining these efforts are encouraged to contact Kari Shumaker at the United Way office at 304.523.8929 x 113 or at kari.shumaker@unitedwayrivercities.

United Way is asking community members to support these efforts by shopping and dining in these establishments throughout the year in addition to the designated “Out on the Town” days (Sept. 9 – 12, 2010).

Current partners are Kaufman's Sarka Lake Jewelers, Mug & Pia, Tenampa Mexican Restaurant, The Old Village Roaster, Whisk, Wrights and www.mythirtyone.com/shopwithme.

This event is sponsored by the Southwestern Community Action Council Mature Worker Program “Helping People. Changing Lives.”
