New Schools Southside Elementary and Huntington Middle Open with Ribbon Cutting

Huntington, WV (HNN) - Two new schools Huntington Middle School and Southside Elementary School joined the Cabell County Schools with a ribbon cutting on Sunday afternoon in the auditorium.

The schools had already been open for about a week starting to teach students in the school systems newest learning facilities. Sunday ceremony officially opened the schools and allowed the public a chance to tour the new schools talking to principals and teachers.
 
The auditorium was filled with many going to the balcony. Cabell County School Superintendent William A. Smith was all smiles in the hallway after the ribbon cutting talking and greeting people as the came out of the auditorium.
 
The former front of the former Cammack Middle School still stands. The open roof balcony that is on the fourth floor still exists is now a teacher work area. The auditorium is similar to the old with a new updated look and new colors.
 
There are new clean class room many equipped with computer technology, new desks and sliding black boards. There are new halls lined with new lockers. Two new gymnasiums to use. There is new cafeteria that is centrally located so both schools can be served. New media rooms are also available.
 
Many former Cammack students took a look at their former school that brought back memories and a reunion atmosphere. Many new students came with their families to show them the new school.
 
John Hanna is the principal for Southside Elementary. Joe Brison is the principal for Huntington Middle with about 600 students.
 
It will be the Southside Cardinals and the Huntington Middle School Eagles in black and gold colors.
