Huntington, WV (HNN) - On Friday August 20, Marshall University Student Government Association, the Cabell-Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Create Huntington will present WelcomeFest 2010, a festival to welcome Marshall University’s largest incoming freshman class ever. With the freshmen student body expected to be approximately 2,000 students, the committee expects a large number of attendees, both from Marshall University and the local community. “The goal of the event,” said Samantha Turley, Student Body Vice-President, “is to establish lasting connections between the Marshall University student body and the businesses, vendors, and artisans of the Huntington area community.”

“We invite interested businesses to participate in the festival with FREE exhibit or sales space. You are welcome to pass out information about your business, group, or organization, or to sell products and food,” Turley said. WelcomeFest will provide a fun, interactive atmosphere by providing live music and by introducing students to the community.

“The student body of Marshall University is an important segment of our community,” said Tyson Compton, president of the CVB. “So we were pleased to be a sponsor of this event and actively show our support of these students, make them feel welcome and at the same time show them and their families what there is to see and do in Cabell County.”

“This is a good opportunity for community members to learn more about what Huntington has to offer as well,” Compton said. “We hope this will turn into an annual event that’s both informative and entertaining.”

The event is Friday, August 20th, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. It will be held in the area of Pullman Square and on 3rd Avenue, between 9th and 10th streets. Vendors are required to bring their own table and supplies and may set up between 2:30 pm and 3:45 pm.
