Charleston, WV (HNN) - Kathy Brown, a Charleston attorney and former WSAZ-TV news reporter/anchor, will be appearing on an upcoming episode of “Oprah.”

“I’m going to be on Oprah,” Ms. Brown stated. “ It's all about Oprah and the time she came to WV when Williamson kicked the kid out of the pool b/c we was suspected of having AIDS.”

That episode took place in 1987 when Winfrey hosted a town meeting in Williamson, WV, after hysteria gripped the Mingo County town when a gay child allegedly suffering from AIDS lived there. The man had been swimming in the public pool and the mayor drained the pool. The afternoon TV icon scolded Williamson’s homophobic studio audience, “But I hear this is a God fearing town, where’s all that Christian love and understanding?”

The episode considered one of “O’s” best is included in a best of DVD set. Oprah provides follow up and perspective.

The date of Brown’s appearance is not known at this time.
