Here are the next steps in the process, according to Brandi Jacobs-Jones, the city's director of administration and finance:
COPY ON FILE: A copy of the plan will be placed online and at the city clerk's office for public inspection for 30 days beginning Thursday, Aug. 12. http://www.cityofhuntingtoton.com
PUBLIC COMMENT: A public hearing on the plan is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13. The City Council vote at its regular meeting on the same day on the first reading of the plan. Public comment would be allowed.
SECOND READINGS: If the plan is approved, the second reading would be during a work session scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23. Council work sessions normally begin at 4 p.m.
HOME RULE: If the measure passes those steps, then the state home rule board would vote on the proposal. The meeting is expected to be sometime between Sept. 24-29.
ENACTMENT: The ordinance contemplates collection of the Occupation Tax beginning October 1. Concurrently, the user fee ($3 per week) would be repealed. However, if litigation is filed regarding the occupation tax, the user fee continues until a court ruling.
