Huntington, WV (HNN) – Mary Ellen Wolfe, daughter of Mayor Kim Wolfe and Debbie Wolfe suffered a serious heel injury last weekend in Springfield, Missouri., where she had been performing as a stunt/diving artist in a traveling show. Ms. Wolfe “shattered” her heel bone (calcaneus) when she fell from a platform to the surface, her father explained.

Calling her the family “daredevil,” Mayor Wolfe stated that even though she is in severe pain, Mary Ellen has already “run a mile around the park on crutches.”

Wolfe complimented the medical officials in Springfield and Huntington in arranging for her to be brought promptly back to Huntington. Debbie Wolfe drove for 36 hours straight to make the round trip to pick up her daughter.

“I contacted Dr. Stephen Wilson who is a trauma surgeon and he made arrangements to get her back here.”

Dr. Zack Tankersley, a foot and ankle specialist, will perform surgery next week at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. He is considered one of the country’s best at this reconstructive surgery. Due to the need for a drain flow once Mary Ellen’s heel is repaired, she will likely be in the hospital for two days.

“We have faith that she will recover to the fullest extinct that she can,” adding that some shattered bones will be replaced with titanium. She will have limited motion laterally but will have full motion vertically. The Mayor indicated the surgical team must be cautious of infections and blood clots.

Her recovery period is anticipated to be “long term,” the Mayor said. Further evaluation will be made after the surgery.

“She’s a trooper,” her dad said, asking people to pray for her recovery.
