Huntington, WV (HNN) – The WV Department of Administration and the Division of Highways have been served with subpoenas for documents as part of a federal grand jury investigation. The agencies were served with subpoenas requesting “a bunch of documents,” according to a statement by Dwane Tinsley, a Charleston lawyer, appointed as a special assistant attorney general to represent the agency’s.

Late Friday afternoon, August 6, Gov. Joe Manchin’s office issued the following statement:

“The State of West Virginia was served this week with two federal subpoenas.

“Neither subpoena was directed to Governor Manchin or the Governor’s Office. No individual in the Governor’s Office was served with a subpoena.

“The Governor has directed State officials to fully cooperate and comply expeditiously.

“Governor Manchin wants to get to the bottom of the issue as soon as possible.

“The State has not been informed that Governor Manchin or any other state employee is under investigation.”

Both the Charleston Daily Mail and WV Watchdog have reported that the documents concern companies who have performed work at the governor’s mansion or who have catered parties there. The Watchdog stated that the investigation concerns state bidding procedures on these contracts.
