Huntington, WV (HNN) — The Huntington Centennial Toastmasters Club this week received the President's Distinguished Club recognition for its local activities in public speaking and leadership development in the Huntington WV area. In the club’s 38 year history, this is the first time the local club has earned this honor, the highest any Toastmasters club can receive.
Toastmasters International headquarters presented the award to the Huntington Centennial Toastmasters Club for the 12 month period year ending June 30, 2010. The club also started a new club that meets at noon, mentored others in leadership and public speaking, held a seminar in conjunction with the Huntington Area Visitor’s Bureau, and provided an informational seminar on taxes.
During the 12-month period ending June 30, 2010, two Huntington Toastmasters earned their Competent Communicator awards, and two earned their Advanced Communicator awards. One club member earned their Competent Leader award, and three club members received an Advanced Leadership award. These achievements helped in receiving the President's Distinguished Club recognition.
“Becoming, for the first time, a President's Distinguished Club is a significant achievement for the membership of the Huntington Centennial Toastmasters.” said Duncan Burnside who served as president of the Huntington Centennial Toastmasters Club during the club's last 12-month period. “"With the receipt of this award I would encourage others in the Tri-State to come and join us in a relaxed environment, that we have created as a club, that will allow you to develop both personally and professionally. We have a growing membership that are all at different stages of their development and we will always welcome you to see how far you could go."
"The President's Distinguished Club honor puts our club among the top clubs in the nation," said Derick Dickens who serves as the current president of the Huntington Centennial Toastmasters Club. "Our members have created a fun and positive atmosphere which attracts people who want personal and professional development. Together we help each other accomplish our goals."
The Huntington Centennial Toastmasters meets at 7:00 p.m. every 2nd and 4th Thursdays at the First Presbyterian Church at 1015 5th Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia. For more information you can go to www.toastmasters.org.
