Huntington, WV (HNN) – If you are planning on crossing the Fifth Street Robert C. Byrd Bridge or driving on Huntington’s Fourth Avenue, you will have to make some route adjustments.

On Friday afternoon a large sinkhole opened at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street. The hole has potentially destabilized most of the roadway which is located near the bridge.

Excavation will be performed by members of the City of Huntington Street Department and members of the Huntington Sanitary Board.

The Huntington Police Department is advising that drivers avoid the area.

Vehicles on the Byrd Bridge coming to WV from Ohio will until further notice use the Veterans Memorial Blvd. exit. Fourth Avenue traffic will be detoured at Fourth Street.
