Huntington, WV (HNN) – While the tax reform package consumed most of the minutes during the Thursday, July 22, wok session of Huntington City Council, a resolution and first reading will likely bring out supporters and naysayers.

First, the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health would seem a done deal. No opposition. But, the trail winds into Westmoreland along the Ohio River. That means that runners would have to pass about a mile of barges if the Corps of Engineers approves a pending permit application.

Councilman Jim Ritter has assembled heavy hitting re-enforcements . He stated during the work session that State Senator Bob Plymale will be on hand to speak about the trail and the barges.

In addition, Ritter’s sponsoring the first reading of an ordinance that would modify language related to a judge’s options in dealing with vicious dogs. At present, the ordinance only allows the municipal court to order the dog euthanized. The amendment contemplates allowing the canine to live but punishing a naughty dog owner with a fine or up to 30 days in the slammer.

Revisions to the ordinance comes on the heels of WSAZ reporting that two U.S. Postal Service employees have been bitten in two separate incidents by pit bulls.

According to the TV station, one of the animals has been quarantined for ten days. The second one has yet to be rounded up.
