Huntington Cab Driver Reports Fire, Rescues Dogs
By Tony Rutherford
Huntingtonnews.net Reporter
Huntington, WV (HNN) - Flames erupted on the second floor an apartment in the middle of West Ninth Street shortly before 6 p.m., Thursday, July 8. Huntington firefighters had to battle the flames with temperatures above 90 degrees.
Our source spotted black flames driving on the interstate and took photos and video of the fire in which one fire fighter injured his leg in an apparent fall from a truck.
Shawn Windsor, a Huntington cab driver, became a hero to many. Windsor told our reporter that he called 9-1-1, then entered the burning building to ensure no one was inside.
No residents were in the apartment, but Windsor saved two dogs just prior to a major eruption of the blaze.
HFD had the fire under control in about ten minutes, but it flared back up a couple of times.
