Oxley, Neely Voted Cabell School Board Officers

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Members of the Cabell County Board of Education on Tuesday, July 7, selected incumbent member, Suzanne Oxley to be the 2010-2011 president. She replaces the late Ted Barr.
Mary Neely, a former city councilwoman, was selected as the board’s vice president. She had been appointed to fill an unexpired term and won a full term in the May election.
Bernie Thomas will be the board’s representative for RESA 2.
Mary Alice Freeman was sworn in for a full term and Garland Parsons was sworn in to fill Barr’s unexpired term.
At the meeting, the Board announced plans to demolish the West Virginia Colored Children’s Home. A public hearing will be held July 22 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the board’s mitigation to preserve the history of the home. The structure would be torn down for construction of the new combined middle school on the former Marshall Heights property behind the Prestera Center.
