Huntington and Marshall Welcome 250 Youth Soccer Teams

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Opening ceremonies were held at Joan C. Edwards Stadium Thursday afternoon for the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 Championship.
The partially Olympic styled ceremony served as the kickoff to the week-long event highlighting the achievements of the players, coaches and staffs and sets the stage for the finals.
A parade of players and coaches included more than 250 boys’ and girls’ teams.
Huntington City Council chairman, Jim Insco, told HNN that although the games take place in Huntington, Barboursville, and surrounding Cabell County, he excited and hoping that all location put on good shows for the visitors.
Many Soccer players will be staying in the residence halls located on the Marshall campus.
Players and their families are invited to stroll beyond the halls and dining areas of campus and take a look at some of the locations the 2006 film, “We Are Marshall” were shot.
In addition, the Marshall recreation Center beside the football stadium offers an aquatic center, spa, fitness areas and exercise machines. Cost is $5 per day for visitors. Free billiards and ping pong are available at the Memorial Student Center and the Marshall University book store is open for purchase of campus wear and souvenirs.
