Huntington, WV (HNN) - When the 10% pay cut takes effect for city employees, the Mayor’s salary is not subject to reduction since he is an elected official. So, Mayor Kim Wolfe, a former member of the Huntington Police Department Mounted Unit, will donate 10% of his salary to the Mounted Police Commission.

Wolfe explained the Don’t Horse Around with Drugs program for schools remains active. The Mounted Police Commission acts as a “fiscal agent,” Wolfe said. “They can do recommendations, but the Police Chief [makes decisions].”

The Mayor said, “I will have finance sign a check for direct deposit into that account.”

His contribution will go toward upkeep of the horses and a goal of “resurrecting and getting some people trained” to actively reestablish the department’s horse mounted unit.
