Huntington, WV (HNN) – According to efficiency statistics the Huntington, WV mail processing center on Virginia Avenue rates among the five most efficiet in the U.S.A. However, employees there have apparently been told that the center may be consolidated to Charleston. The Charleston processing center ranks under 200.

As a result, Huntington City Council has placed an item on its agenda to offer support for maintaining the mail facility on Virginia Avenue. Huntington councilman Jim Ritter will sponsor the resolution, according to chairman Jim Insco.

Adoption of the resolution has no binding authority on the federal government. It does, however, show that the city supports the endeavors of the employees of the U.S. Postal Service facility.

Both city council members Scott Caserta and Frances Jackson expressed surprise that the postal processing center may be on the chopping block due to mounting U.S. Postal Service losses.
