United Way National “Day” of Action Continues
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Huntington, WV (HNN) – June 21, 2010 was the longest day of the year, with more daylight hours than any other. It was also United Way's National Day of Action and a chance to clean up the community where we live, work and play!
United Way is promoting clean up efforts going on throughout the River Cities. If you or a group you know is organizing clean up efforts during summer 2010, and would like help publicizing them contact the United Way office at 304.523.8929 or liveunited@unitedwayrivercities.org.
Additionally, United Way partnered with various groups to organize clean up activities on June 21st which include the Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District, Adopt Your Block, and Neighborhood Institute.
The “Downtown Tree Bed Clean Up” project was postponed that day due to a large storm in the River Cities. However, that hasn’t stopped one work group from continuing their Day of Action project. The Downtown Tree Bed Clean Up project will give it another try, but they need help! The group will pull weeds and do some planting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, June 25, 2010 starting at 611 Third Avenue that morning.
Here is how community members can help.
1. Spread the word
2. Come out for a few hours on Saturday to help out.
For more information and to volunteer for this project or others listed below contact the United Way office at 304.523.8929 or liveunited@unitedwayrivercities.org
