Corps Names New Leadership Interns

Huntington, WV (HNN) - Twelve Corps of Engineers employees have been chosen to participate in the Huntington District's 2010-2011 Leadership Intern Program.
This year's class includes seven employees from the Huntington District Office and five field office employees. District Office employees include Rebecca Albert, Lea Bodmer, Sean Carter, Elizabeth Cooper, Anthony Estep, Mark MacGregor and Linda Plumley. Field office participants include Steven Foster, Water Quality Lab at R.C. Byrd Locks and Dam, Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va.; Pamela Hill, Meldahl Locks and Dam, Felicity, Ohio; Jim Hill, London Locks and Dam, London, W.Va.; Aca Ramey, R.D. Bailey Lake, Justice, W.Va., and Michael Woeste, Upper Tuscarawas Office, Mineral City, Ohio.
These employees represent a wide range of talents skills, and abilities. The Corps partners with Marshall University to provide administration of the program. Dr. Lorraine Anderson, Associate Dean at Marshall, and Jim Shiner of the Huntington District staff, work together to provide the participants a wide-range of opportunities for learning and growth. The intensive training program is designed to assess the individual strengths and weaknesses of the participants pertaining to leadership and management qualities. The program is tailored to use knowledge and experience of senior District leadership as well as graduate-level training.
The district began offering the Leadership Intern Program in 1999 and has graduated 85 employees from the program.
The Huntington District spans 45,000 square miles of a five-state area. Its 35 reservoir projects provide flood damage reduction benefits that have surpassed $11 billion. These projects also provide recreation benefits that help stimulate the local economy. Our navigation structures provide for year-round transportation on the Kanawha and Ohio rivers allowing for economical transport of bulk commodities. As the Nation's environmental engineer, the Corps works to protect, sustain and restore our Nation's waters.
