Gorum named Corps Safety Office Chief

Huntington, WV (HNN) - The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has named Shreda Gorum as Chief of its Occupational Safety and Health Office.
 
In her new position, Gorum is responsible for oversight and administration of the district’s occupational safety and health program by developing plans to eliminate or effectively control hazards to provide for the safety and well being of employees, property and continuity of operations.
 
Gorum began her career with the Corps in 1994 as the Injury Compensation Program Administrator for the Huntington District. Prior to her selection as Chief, Gorum served as both a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist and Safety Technician. From 1980 through 1985, Gorum served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force as a Public Relations Specialist/Journalist.
 
A native of Wayne, W.Va., Gorum studied journalism at Marshall University and business management at University of Maryland. She completed Safety Intern training at the U.S. Army Safety Center at Texas A&M University and received certification as a Safety and Health Official from the OSHA Training Institute.
 
Throughout her 16-year career with the Corps, Gorum has received numerous awards and recognitions. She also serves as a member of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Water Safety Council.
