Corps Welcomes New Deputy Commander

Huntington, WV (HNN) - The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Andy Ford as its new Deputy Commander. As Deputy Commander, Lt. Col. Ford serves as a member of the district’s Corporate Board and as an advisor to the District commander. He directs a diverse staff of over 900 team members spread across the district’s 45,000 square miles to provide vital public engineering services in peace and war to strengthen our Nation's security, energize the economy, and reduce risks from disasters.
 
Prior to assuming his duties as Deputy Commander for the Huntington District, Lt. Col. Ford served as the Deputy District Commander for the Hurricane Storm Damage Risk Reduction System in the New Orleans District where he was responsible for executing a comprehensive and integrated flood control program, ecosystem restoration, and hurricane and storm damage reduction system for southern Louisiana. The major focus is the planning and construction of the Katrina-Damaged Hurricane and flood protection structures.
 
Lt. Col. Ford earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, Alabama in 1989 and is a Distinguished Military Graduate. Other military and civilian education includes the Engineer Officers Basic and Advanced Courses, the Environmental Compliance Officers Course, Command and General Staff College and management level courses and a full series of Emergency Management training by FEMA and the Federal Emergency Management Institute. 
 
His most recent military assignments include Chief of Operations, C7 (Engineer), Multi-National Corps-Iraq, Baghdad, Iraq from October 2005 to September 2006, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Director of Public Work, U.S. Army Garrison, Schinnen, The Netherlands, from July 2003 to December 2006.
