Huntington Sanitary Board Fighting Proposal
By Tony Rutherford

Huntington, WV (HNN) - A state board has proposed imposition of a minimum cost of $35 per month for agencies such as the Huntington Sanitary Board to qualify for the lowest interest state loans. However, executive director Loretta Covington told council members that the Huntington Sanitary Board and members of the West Virginia Water Quality Association are against passage of the measure.
The proposal allows public comments until June 25.
During the meeting of the Finance Committee of Huntington City Council , councilman Jim Ritter requested a resolution be placed before the full council to oppose the WVIJDC action.
Covington explained that Huntington’s current rate of $18 a month would preclude the Sanitary Board from qualifying for the best interest loans.
“It’s not fair to our citizens” that they “cannot receive the lower interest,” Covington said.
She suggested that a joint meeting of Senate and House delegates be arranged to express dissatisfaction with the WVIJDC proposal.
