Students from Huntington Area Graduate from WVSOM May 29

Lewisburg, WV (HNN) – Eight residents from the Huntington area graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) on May 29.
Dr. James Bailey of Huntington, Dr. Larry Carter of Delbarton, Dr. Mark Hagen of Milton, Dr. Kimberly Hensley of Delbarton, Dr. Ron LeMaster of Ceredo, Dr. James Perry of Barboursville, Dr. Jennifer Ward of Huntington, and Dr. Chris Wilson of Winfield earned Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degrees during WVSOM's 33rd annual commencement ceremony on the school campus in Lewisburg, W.Va.
This year's WVSOM class is the largest in school history, with 176 students graduating. The seven Clarksburg area students are among 53 West Virginians in the WVSOM Class of 2010.
Overall, the class is comprised of students from 35 states; it includes 91 women and 85 men. Seventy-three percent of the class is entering primary care residency programs after graduation. There is a pressing need for primary care physicians in today's health care system. Primary care specialties include Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and OB/Gyn.
Dr. Karen Nichols, president-elect of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), will be the keynote speaker at the event. Nichols is the first woman elected to lead the AOA.
WVSOM is a leader in educating students for the practice of primary care medicine. The college has been recognized for 12 consecutive years as a top medical school, including the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine’s “Best Graduate Schools” issue. Visit WVSOM online at www.wvsom.edu.
