Huntington, WV (HNN) - AARP, in cooperation with WorkForce West Virginia, on Saturday, May 29, officially launched the AARP Foundation’s WorkSearch project, an easy-to-use system at selected WorkForce West Virginia locations across the state to assist workers in their efforts to find the right job based on their interests, personal characteristics, experience and skills.

West Virginia House Speaker Rick Thompson joined AARP West Virginia Senior State Director Gaylene Miller and Russell Fry, acting executive director for WorkForce West Virginia, for an open house event at the Huntington WorkForce West Virginia Career Center to celebrate the introduction of this new career resource tool for West Virginia workers.

AARP WorkSearch provides tangible community level services to individuals who are seeking to remain in or re-enter the workforce. WorkSearch is a valuable resource that helps people quickly assess if they have the right skills for their career choices, access free and low-cost training programs to fill skill gaps, and connect with employers and available job openings.

The Huntington site is only the first of what will be seven sites across the state for the WorkSearch project. By mid-summer, WorkSearch will be available as a free resource for clients at WorkForce West Virginia career centers in Charleston, Fairmont, Parkersburg, Wheeling, Martinsburg and Beckley.

AARP is seeking volunteers to assist with the WorkSearch program, and is looking for individuals with basic computer, Internet and organizational skills to help people learn to use WorkSearch. Volunteers will work in their local WorkForce West Virginia One-Stop Career Centers. AARP provides free training, and a variety of shifts are available Monday through Friday.
