Small Fire Quickly Contained; Puppy Steals the Show

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Call it a fairly routine run for the Huntington Fire Department. Smoke billowed from a vehicle on a storage lot in West Huntington Thursday afternoon, May 27. By the time, I walked the two blocks to the location near 13th and Van Buren Avenue, the hoses had soaked the dark smoke into white streaks.

As a precaution, though, firefighters performed a preventive rescue from the auto lots trailer --- a frisky, cuddly puppy.

Yes, the already impounded vehicle sustained damage. But, this is one of those times when the vibrancy of the little dog on a hot, sweaty almost summer afternoon demonstrated both aspects of HFD and public safety --- putting out the fire and preserving life.

Thanks to the firefighters for caring about the puppy.
