'Dear John' Has Marshall Connection

Huntington, WV (HNN) – When you pass by DVD counters this week, you will notice a sentimental romantic comedy titled, “Dear John.” If you watched it on the big screen, you know it’s about a soldier who falls for a conservative gal. He’s supposed to get out of the military and marry her. Along comes 9/11.
Though you likely would not recognize the easy weaving of sentiment and empowerment without looking at a credit crawl, the screenwriter’s name has familiarity --- Jamie Linden.
Linden’s first screenplay concerned a group of tragedy challenged underdogs attempting to field a football team. Jamie’s first screenplay was “We Are Marshall.” He is also listed as a co-producer.
WHERE THE FILMMAKERS ARE
Have you seen the re-make of “Clash of the Titans 3D?” Basil Iwanyk, one of “WAM’s producers, helped bring the mythical gods to life. He also produced “Brooklyn’s Finest” and is working to complete “The Expendables,” which stars Sylvester Stallone and is due for an August 2010 release.
Executive Producer Thomas Tull has added lots of box office gold nuggets to his resume: The Dark Knight, Watchman, Hangover, Clash of the Titans, Jonah Hex and Inception are just some of his flicks since he helped tell the story of the Young Thundering Herd.
Jeanne Allgood, who work with director/producer McG’s Wonderland Sound & Vision , followed the “We Are Marshall” director as an executive producer for “Terminator Salvation,” while McG directed. McG’s next directorial stint will be a comedy , “This Means War,” based on Internet Movie Data Base compilations. Reese Witherspoon will play a woman that sets off a battle between life-long friends --- they have each been hit by Cupid’s arrow and each want Reese as their lady.
The “G” man, though, has been doing lots of television production , especially episodes of “Chuck,” “Supernatural” and “Human Target.” He’s in post production with a TV adaptation of “Thunder Road.”
Mary Viola, who steered Basil away from a soccer team to the Marshall story, has been the executive producer of “Lost Boys: The Tribe,” “Brooklyn’s Fines,” and the upcoming “Medallion” and “Invaders.”
