Huntington, WV (HNN) - Saturday, May 22, 2010 marked five years since four teens --- Megan Posten, Michael Dillon, Donte Ward and Eddrick Clark --- were shot to death on Charleston Avenue following a prom. For a sense of perspective, here's how the story broke on HNN five years ago:

QUADRUPLE SLAYING ON CHARLESTON AVENUE IN HUNTINGTON; SOME OF THE VICTIMS FROM AREA HIGH SCHOOLS

By Tony Rutherford HNN Writer

Four young people were shot and killed in the vicinity of 1410 Charleston Avenue at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. According to neighbors and another student, at least three of the victims had earlier attended the Huntington High School prom. The identities of the four will not be released until Monday.

However, Sarah Woods, a junior at South Point High School, who knew one of the victims, visited near the Charleston Avenue crime scene Sunday afternoon. Ms. Woods said two of those slain were from Huntington High, one had graduated two years ago and another was from Cabell Midland.

A neighbor just returning from a club told HNN that “We heard gunshots that went pop, pop, pop.” The man who chose not to disclose his identity said that he “saw bodies on the sidewalk.”

Members of the Huntington Police Department and West Virginia State Police had the block still cordoned off Sunday afternoon. Investigators wearing cloth over their shoes could be seen going in and out of the residence. In addition, they took samples from a vehicle that was in the yard.

Police Chief Arthur E. “Gene” Baumgardner said there was “nobody in the downstairs area” of the house at the time of the shooting.

When asked if the incident was connected to the HHS prom, Baumgardner said “we have information that it could be…great possibility.”

WOWK-TV is reporting that midnight shift officers worked all morning to collect evidence. According to their report, onlookers at one time totaled more than 100. They reported that a woman --- possibly the mother of one of the victims --- broke through police tape to get to her slain child.

While police officials would not provide information surrounding the shooting or a potential motive, Ms. Woods said, “I heard it had to do with drugs.”

Before leaving Ms. Woods indicated that although she was relieved “it wasn’t my friend, but it’s still sad that other people got shot.”

As officers prepared to tow a vehicle from the yard of 1410 Charleston Avenue, a former HPD intern drove up looking for several officers she knew. The woman, who is now in college, indicated that a number of drug unit members were at the scene Sunday afternoon.
