Portsmouth Floodwall Murals Depict History
By Tony Rutherford

Portsmouth, Ohio (HNN) – Both organizations and residents have proposed art to enhance the concrete floodwall that forms a barrier between Pullman Square and Harris Riverfront Park. Although the wall protects the city and downtown from flooding, the bare concrete has often been described as bland and separating the city from the river.
Various proposal have been made in Huntington. However, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the floodwall has been painted to reflect the Scioto County city’s history. In fact, even a pumping station has been incorporated into a painting.
The floodwall murals of Portsmouth are along the portion of the floodwall nearest the central business district and Shawnee State College.
