Towing Vessel Misty Dawn Raised from Bottom of Kanawha River

Barboursville, WV (HNN) - The towing vessel Misty Dawn was raised from the bottom of the Kanawha River by salvage crews Thursday morning, April 22, 2010. The vessel has been refloated, and the diesel fuel on board has been safely removed.
Salvage efforts will now shift to the sunken crane barge located on the right descending bank of the Kanawha River near Poca, W.Va. It is anticipated that salvage operations on the crane barge will commence Friday morning.
The Kanawha River has been reopened to vessel traffic, however, a Coast Guard safety zone will remain in effect until all salvage operations have been completed.
The Coast Guard will continue to investigate this accident.
