Lucas Outraised Maynard in Third Congressional Race

Washington, DC (HNN) – The money race for the Third Congressional seat in West Virginia showed Nick Rahall (D-WV) with more than $1.5 million dollars in cash on hand and nearly $600,000 raised during the period ending March 31, 2010.
But a surprise shows on the Republican side of the ledger, Conrad Lucas III raised just over $48,000 topping Elliott “Spike” Maynard who raised $46,000 and Lee Bias who collected $27,920. Marty Gearheart did not raise enough funds to meet filing requirements.
While Lucas and Bias raised most of their money in Cabell County, Maynard only received four contributions totaling a little over $1,200 from Cabell County. He received contributions from the coal industry, including Massey Coal Services. Interestingly, none of the $9,200 in disbursements were spent in the Third District. The majority went for consultants and office supplies in Charleston and Spencer, W.Va., and Blacksburg, Va.
HNN spoke Wednesday, April 21 with several political consultants. All have been surprised that Conrad Lucas outraised “Spike” Maynard.
