EXCLUSIVE: Proposal Galvanized Feedback
Committee Will Likely Recommend Reductions, Eliminations of Other City Fees

Huntington, WV (HNN) – On the eve of a second Finance Committee hearing concerning the City of Huntington occupation tax proposal, Finance Committee Chairman Steve Williams reminded citizens about tax reform, not new taxation.
Expressing that the administration occupation tax proposal has “galvanized” feedback, at large councilman Williams told HNN to anticipate a “tax package,” from council and the administration. In short, the occupation tax would be tied to eliminations and reductions of other fees. Obviously, the ‘user fee’ must be eliminated, but the financial minds of council has a vision --- one that incrementally reduces the square footage based municipal service fee and (at least) a reduction in B & O taxes on manufacturing industries.
Having communicated with “hundreds,” Williams (and others?) found public acceptance of the proposed tax becoming more palatable when accompanied by this bouquet of reforms.
“We have all had the same ideas, we have been saying it and when we start talking we are all thinking the same thing,” Williams explained.
