Goodwill Slates Annual Meeting for Thursday

Huntington, WV (HNN) -- Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA’s 2010 Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon will be at noon on Thursday, April 22 at Goodwill’s Employment and Training Center, 1005 Virginia Avenue.
 
Jim Gibbons, CEO of Goodwill Industries International will give the keynote address. Before coming to Goodwill in 2008, Gibbons was with the National Industries for the Blind (NIB) where he served as President and CEO for ten years. Prior to NIB, Jim was President and CEO of Campus Wide Access Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T. While at AT&T, he held leadership positions in operations, product management, and mergers and acquisitions. Jim attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where he was the first blind person to graduate from Harvard with a MBA. He earned his bachelor degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.
 
CEO Kimberly Lewis will recap the 2009 accomplishments of the agency and staff members will present awards to outstanding graduates of Goodwill’s training programs. Area businesses and agencies that have assisted Goodwill in their mission to empower people to overcome employment barriers and strengthen families and communities will also be recognized. The theme of this year’s luncheon is “The Possibilities are Limitless.”
 
Awards will be presented to James Villegas – 2009 Client of the Year; Chris Haynes – 2009 Student of the Year; and Craig Johnson of Walgreens – 2009 Employer of the Year. Alissa Stewart, director of Southwestern Community Action Council’s Mature Worker Program and Mary Mason, Managing Director of Compliance and Client Services for the WV Housing Development Fund will receive 2009 Community Partner of the Year awards.
 
In 2009, Goodwill served over 3515 people through their counseling, training and employment programs, which were supported by the sale of over 5 million pounds of donated goods. Additionally, Goodwill Industries’ Industrial Contracts Division recycled 651 tons of paper and cardboard and 107 tons of electronic components. None of this material went to a landfill.
