COUNCIL MEETING: Resolutions Would Approve Banking Switch, Numerous Pass Through Grants

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Huntington City Council meets tonight, Monday, March 8, with another mostly items of routine business agenda.
Two resolutions will move two landfill escrow accounts from Fifth Third Bank to First Sentry Bank, the city’s bank of record. Asked for the reasoning for the switch, Finance Director Deron Runyon told council members at the Friday, March 5 work session that First Sentry was “more cost effective” than Fifth Third.
Other resolution will likely approve a $4,500 economic development grant for the Carter G. Woodson Foundation, $17,000 for a grant at the YMCA’s Kennedy Center, and an ordinance for placement of state funded advertising for the ‘Click It or Ticket’ program.
In addition, council will vote on a contract for boarding up dilapidated and/or burnt out structures. The Huntington Fire Department had in some cases done this previously but found the work load too great. Costs will be passed on to the property owner. An owner can avoid the city ordering property secured by securing their own building(s).
Finally, council has two more Saturday 9 a.m. budget sessions for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. These sessions are televised live on Comcast Channel 24.
