Huntington, WV (HNN) -- West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin joins in a “wall raising”celebration for the 2009 Cancer Survivor Build, Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. in conjunction with the Huntington Area Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society. Following the ceremony, the governor will travel to the new Bell X-1 Playground Climber in Altizer Park for a 4 p.m. decidcation.
The 2009 Cancer Survivor Build is a joint partnership between the ACS and HAHFH. This unique partnership aims to draw upon the strength of cancer survivors, their families, friends and caregivers to help construct a safe, decent and affordable house for a deserving family. Those who volunteer on this build will be part of history, as this is the first build of its kind in the U.S.
This house, the affiliate’s 70th in the Huntington area, will be constructed at 2245 West Fifth Avenue. Area cancers survivors, their families, friends and caregivers are encouraged to attend as our honored guests. After brief introductions, Manchin will make his remarks and then lead cancer survivors in the raising of the walls.
The announcement of the 2009 Cancer Survivor Build was made in April, and two weeks ago ground was broken at the Relay For Life® event at Cabell Midland High School. This build has been made possible through a generous contribution from the Brian David Fox Family Charitable Trust.
