Huntington, WV (HNN) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $2.8 million contract to Tab Construction Company, Inc. for construction at the Parkersburg Riverfront Park.

The project is based on the conceptual plan which was developed by the Corps and officials of Parkersburg and Wood County.

The work includes: adding a traffic circle to the entrance to the park; building a riverboat landing to accommodate cruise boats, excursion ferry boats and small recreation craft; adding tiered seating near the riverboat landing; building restrooms; and expanding the parking area.

Construction is expected to start this summer, and will take approximately 24 months to complete.

The City of Parkersburg is the non-federal sponsor of the project. A portion of the funds are from State of West Virginia Economic Development Grants.
