Huntington Law Firm Announces New Attorney

The partners of Underwood & Proctor Law Offices are pleased to welcome 30-yearold Huntington native John Patrick L. Stephens to the firm. Mr. Stephens is a 1997 graduate of Huntington High School, 2002 Graduate of Marshall University, and 2006 graduate of WVU Law School. He is part of a local family with a long history in the business community of Huntington. One of three children, Stephens is the son of John Stephens, who has operated an Allstate Insurance agency in downtown Huntington for over 30 years.
Top graduate in the finance department upon graduating from MU, Stephens subsequently completed an MBA from WVU in 2005 and graduated WVU law school in 2006. Serving as Associate Editor and later as Executive Publications Editor of the West Virginia Law Review during law school, Mr. Stephens was also awarded many prestigious awards and scholarships while completing his studies (eg. the CALI Award in Business Organizations and Lewis A. Staker Scholarship from WVU and the Outstanding Finance Award and Marshall University Presidential Scholarship from MU).
Specializing in ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974) cases since joining Underwood and Proctor in December, Stephens is already carrying a case load of over 30 clients. Most of these cases deal personal injury or denial of disability benefits and pension plan benefits. With prior experience as a Litigation Associate for the Bailey and Wiley law firm of Charleston, WV, Mr. Stephens also Page 2 UNDERWOO & PROCTOR LAW OFFICES 923 Third Ave Huntington, WV 304-522-0508 clerked for US District Court for the Southern District of WV, Federal District Judge Chuck Chambers for an entire semester of law school. He also has extensive experience as a law clerk, having been previously employed in that capacity by Robinson & Rice law firm of Huntington, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel in Charleston, and attorney Robert Losey of Huntington.
