Huntington, WV (HNN) -- A local invention is being prepared for national market distribution at its new manufacturing facilities in the Huntington Industrial Center.
"The Powerwagon" is a brand new, eco-friendly battery powered portable power generator which recharges by merely turning the wheels of the hitch-on trailer that it’s mounted on. The Powerwagon company will celebrate the launch of this venture with a Grand Opening kickoff ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at their facility located at 515 West 8th Avenue. This event is open to the public. Over the weekend, the company will be hosting live ongoing demonstrations of The Powerwagon in both recreational and professional uses.
The Powerwagon, created by local inventor Paul Wilks, is compact, quiet and easy to use, making it perfect for applications ranging from emergency preparation/humanitarian aid and construction jobsite use to recreation and home back-up power. A one hour excursion will fully charge The Powerwagon, and can provide enough electricity to operate lights, a television, a refrigerator and a window air conditioner for up to 24 hours. The Powerwagon provides an environmentally-friendly and noiseless alternative to traditional power generators.
"The marketplace possibilities for The Powerwagon are endless," says Nathan Daugherty, executive vice-president. "It can be used for recreational purposes such as camping or tailgating. It can also be used in any situation that requires off-site power to operate tools such as construction or farming." The first Powerwagons off the assembly line will be designed for disaster relief efforts and for use at heavy construction sites.
The Powerwagon will also provide West Virginia’s first green collar manufacturing jobs. Up to seven positions will be filled immediately, with plans of expanding the workforce to 30 by the end of 2009.
"This is an exciting economic opportunity for this area," says Bill Toney, City Economic Development Director And Director of the Huntington Municipal Development Authority. "We’re pleased that the Powerwagon can be manufactured where it was created, and pleased that the Huntington Industrial Center has been chosen as the facility to launch this new venture. It will be exciting to watch their successful progress over the coming months and years."
