Huntington, WV (HNN) – Previously county commissions have quarreled and litigated the amount that the regional jails can charge counties per day for housing their prisoners. The WV Supreme Court of Appeals recently sided with the jail authority.
Now, it’s the jail authority’s turn to be on “D” in a suit to recover allegedly unpaid monies.
According to the plaintiff, Cabell Huntington Hospital, they have a contract with the regional jail authority in which the hospital covers the first $5,000 per inmate. If the charges go past $5,000, those financial obligations revert to the WVRJ.
Based on the complaint, CHH treated 42 inmates between May 2004 and April 2005. The suit claims the hospital is still over $177,145.31. Assigned to Cabell County Judge David Pancake, the suit seeks the aforementioned compensatory damages.
