Barboursville, WV (HNN) -- Live birds of prey from the Three Rivers Avian Center in Summers County, WV were on display at Wild Birds Unlimited at the Merritt Creek Farm Shopping Center in Barboursville on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 3, attracting a good crowd.
The store specializes in bird products to attract birds -- like bird houses and bird feed.
Wild Birds Unlimited Proprietor Randy Urian said: "For the last several years we have had the Three Rivers Avian Center, which is a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates birds of prey."
"We are having a program here today for the community to see birds of prey that normally they would not have an opportunity to get close to or be able to observe. This gives them a chance to ask questions."
"The reason the birds are in captivity and not in the wild is because of human imprinting or they may have been injured do to gun shots or being hit by a motor vehicle."
"A lot of people are not aware that a lot of these birds are around them on a daily basis. They are not always easily found or seen. A lot of people are surprised that some of these birds are around them."
"This is a great opportunity to see these birds up close and appreciate them. We have been pretty busy today and have had a number of people coming to see the birds."
He said, "We have been pretty busy today with a number of people specifically coming to see the birds. We are trying to help Three Rivers Avian Center by taking donations to help them support their endeavors."
On display were a Golden Eagle, a Peregrine Falcon, an American Kestrel and a Great Horned Owl. Many people inside the store were taking pictures of the birds and had many questions about them.
