APPY FINALISTS ANNOUNCED: Juried Competition Independent Films Announced for April 19-21 Appalachian Film Festival

Huntington, WV (HNN)- After receiving over one hundred entries, the preliminary judging has been completed on the features, shorts, documentaries , young filmmakers and music videos to be shown IN COMPETITION at the Apply Film Festival. The Festival runs April 19-21 at the Keith Albee Theatre.
Sam St. Clair, festival chairman made the announcement early Monday evening, April 2.
Feature finalists include: “Bernee,” “Birth of a Legend: The Story of the WAMA,” “Glorious Mail,” “Lenders Morgan,” “Scripture Cake,” and “Simple Things.”
Short Film finalists: “Audition,” “I Ran with the Gray Ghost,” “Ricca the Bully,” “Sons of Virginia,” “The Hopewell Haunting,” “The Joy Café,” “The Scarlet Letters,” and “Willow Garden.”
Young Filmmakers finalists: “Maneater,” “The Whole World is Watching,” “Lover Never Change,” “Joy,” and “Jerusalem U.S. Multicultural Project.”
The Documentary line up: “Cracker Crazy: Invisible Histories of the Sunshine State,” “Hoot in the Hole,” “Iron City Blues,” “Keep on Steppin,” “Richard Johnson: Hill Country Troubadour,” and “Shoot the Moon.”
Music Videos selected: “Lost Music Video” (Meet Chilana), “Lover Never Change,” “Ode to Peace and Love,” “Pressing Scars on You,” “The Noose,” and “The Rat and the Duck.”
The screenplay finalist will be announced later.
The films will now be judged by three judges independent of the Huntington Regional Film Commission and Appalachian Film Festival. The results will not be known until the banquet at The Frederick on April 21.
The previously announced guest artist headliners include D.B. Sweeney, who will appear to screen his “Two Tickets to Paradise” at the Keith Albee, Saturday, April 21. Sweeney’s film which chronicles three men on a mid life odyssey to see Marshall play at the Orange Bowl will be shown after the Green and White Game. Sweeney will receive the Governor’s Appy from Gov. Joe Manchin.
Dani Englander, a Rainelle, W.Va., filmmaker, actress, and distributor, debuts her new film “Two Fireflies” on Thursday, April 18 at the Keith Albee. She will also present a workshop on independent filmmaking and distribution. The director and male lead will also accompany Englander to the festival.
Huntington’s Huey Perry who wrote “Blaze” will deliver a screen writing workshop.
Exact dates and times are subject to revision. More specifics will be announced as the festival dates draw closer.
A reception is planned following the “Two Fireflies” screening at the Keith and a cocktail party will be held Friday at the Galleria (a.k.a. Huntington Arcade), next to the Keith Albee.
