LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Byrd, Rockefeller: Read the Constitution
U. S. Senator Jay Rockefeller is wrong when he said the Congress did a good thing with the health care legislation.
And, we would hope that U. S. Senator Robert Byrd who championed his knowledge of the Constitution would awaken once more to tell his constituents the truth.
The Constitution is clear. Its 10th Amendment clearly declares: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People.”
Nowhere does the Constitution grant the federal government the power to mandate the purchase of health insurance by U.S. citizens.
