HNN Home What We Have Here
Is A Failure To Communicate
Editorial Board of HNN
The staff of Huntingtonnews.net understands one of the oldest rules of politics: politicians will always view the press with a certain of suspicion, perhaps even dislike, for the work they do and the things they write. That is part and parcel of the relationship between the politicians and the press in general. However, what is abnormal is the degree to which Huntington Mayor Jean Dean is taking things.

What we refer to are some of the comments that the Mayor has made to our reporters. Mayor Dean has accused our reporters of printing "lies and half truths" about her administration. She has refused to be interviewed by anyone from Huntingtonnews.net. Worse yet officials inside City Hall may have been told by the Mayor not to comment to us. Apparently, the Mayor feels we are out to get her.

Huntingtonnews.net is not out to get Mayor Dean or anyone else. We are out to get the facts.

So, we call upon Mayor Dean to break out of this Nixonian siege mentality and meet us halfway. Huntingtonnews.net invites the Mayor, the members of her administration, the members of City Council, the opportunity to respond to anything we write. In fact, we offer them space on our editorial page to communicate with our readers about anything the administration or council is doing. It's their opportunity to be pro-active.

However, if the Mayor chooses not to participate she has only herself to blame for the public's perception of her administration.
