EDITORIAL: Huntington Occupation Tax Bad Idea
An occupation tax is bad for Huntington. Here are the reasons.
The main reason we are against the occupation tax is that it will depopulate the city. We want Huntington to grow. This tax proposal is a sure fire method of withering our City more.
Furthermore, if the occupation tax is such a great idea, why did not any of the other selected home rule cities ask for the power? The 37 page ordinance makes the finance director too powerful in administering and interpreting the tax.
HNN has talked to many citizens on this issue. The biggest advocates for an occupation tax have one thing in common. They all get a check from the city.
