DEVOTION: Chilling
By Beth Bondurant
Weather for everyone seems chilling this particular December... and we are all remembering what a blessing it is to be able to stay warm...safe and dry.
Life is full of brisk winds that blow in frequently making even large cruise ships turn topsy-turvy...throwing both objects and people around without any regard to their well being.
With instant communication being too feasible... we hear chilling reports all through the day and night ... giving uncertainty to our hearts, mind, body and spirit.
As the disciples rode in a boat, a huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And the Master was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping! They roused him, saying, "Teacher, is it nothing to you that we're going down?"
Like people have been from century to century our faith wavers with the chilling storms we face from day to day.
It is natural to CRY OUT and wonder WHY we are so easily tossed about when we know our hope is in God's eternal love and mercy that is steady as a Rock!
"To be spiritual minded is life and peace."
O God, I do believe but I am so easily tossed about and I waver in my steadfast faith and hope. Help me today to be clothed in your peace that passes all understanding. When I am off balance... help me regain my focus and direction by looking for Your presence and power. Forgive me when I expect some magical "twitch of the nose" to set things right in my heart and mind... my body and spirit. Give me patience and forgiveness for myself and others when we begin to sink and need help to come "out of the waters"... onto the rock of faith. Give me the courage to weather the storms of life... truly believing that you will lift us up and restore our soul.... even when life is cold and chilling.
