DEVOTION: For All the Saints
By Beth Bondurant
Halloween prepares us for remembering to see all the Saints around us... those who have gone before us... and those who will continually guide us through the trials and tribulations of life.
Seeing beyond the many masks that hide our vision of God's love and truth isn't easy.
Seeing above the circumstances and everyday challenges that keep us from God's Shalom is limiting.
Seeing goodness and mercy alongside every devastating experience is sometimes ... a fleeting hope.
"There was a man, his name Zacchaeus, the head tax man and quite rich. He wanted desperately to see the Master, but the crowd was in his way—he was a short man and couldn't see over the crowd."
What can we do when we can't seem to see God with us.
O God... I am short sighted... short tempered... my commitment is so often short term. I often short change Your Spirit and the presence of truth in others. My church seems short handed when it comes to unity of purpose. Often I short cut my family and friends in relationship and trust. My faith can be short lived. O God ... forgive my short winded stamina for peace and hope... for love and forgiveness. Short circuit my doubt and help me remember the long and short spoken .. the tall and shortish calling... for all the saints.
"Zacchaeus just stood there, a little stunned. He stammered apologetically, "Master, I give away half my income to the poor—and if I'm caught cheating, I pay four times the damages."
God's love is never short lived... but is unconditional and eternal for all the saints.
