DEVOTION: World Communion Day

By Beth Bondurant

"ALL THE WORLD IN UNION WITH GOD."

There are times we can remember "all the world in union with God"....It usually has been during the most devastating events when there seems no where to turn...and the world has fallen on their knees together in prayer.

How can we "commune" when we don't understand another's language... lifestyle... tradition... faith?

"No one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God."

Today we will make a conscious effort to commune with our brothers and sisters all over the world as we partake of God's gift of love...a visual reminder of unconditional grace.

"Take... eat this bread" as a symbol of my willingness to be "broken for you".

"Drink this cup... all of it"... a taste of life giving goodness flowing in and out in never ending love.

We say the words... we hear the words... we take and eat and drink and remember... this is a God's gift given to all without exception.

O God... Forgive my lack of inclusiveness and rehabilitate my human frailty that is so selfish and selective. I am grievously blind when it comes to seeing your grace and goodness spread on your table in every corner of the world. Open up my heart to receive the power of communion... one with another. Draw me close to Your Spirit that teaches... guides... comforts... and includes me no matter what I am like... what I have done... where I am....or who I touch. Help me believe the intensity of Your understanding and compassion as I taste the common bread and ordinary cup passed to every outstretched hand. Renew a right spirit within me...and bless this celebration of unity as we are drawn together... forever.. on World Communion Day.
