COME HOME. LOVE, DAD: Letter from the War Department

Next in the series from "Come Home. Love, Dad," published by Bernard Street Books, a memoir about my father, Samuel Reuben – a truly extraordinary man.
My father, Samuel Reuben, was part of the War Effort during World War II.
His Blinker Training Machine helped to save lives and keep our nation free.
I have a war time letter dated April 26, 1944 from Lieutenant J. A. Cameron, USMS, to Lieut. Commdr. Hollis, USMS, on War Shipping Administration stationery for the Training Organization of the United States Maritime Service:
Subject: Blinker Training Machine.
This is to introduce Samuel Reuben, Jr., inventor of the above Machine who (had) demonstrated a training unit in my presence… My findings are as follows: -- The combined oscillator and visual practice machine was found to be very satisfactory.
This machine will fill a definite need in training equipment.
… Let me state that the Officer-in-Charge of the Wartime Merchant Ship Commission School of Port Director, New York, has seen this device and feels that it would be of considerable aid to him in instructing. There are seventeen other schools similar to his that he feels could use this aid.
And so you see that despite his whim and whimsy, Samuel Reuben was not an impractical man.
Just a magical one.
