DEVOTION: Rumbling Towards The Junction
By Beth Bondurant
In the wee hours of the morning... one can hear the rumbling of a train ... making it's way towards a specific destination... day after day.
At first it is seems that even the ground is shaking uncontrollably as the train cars speed in heavy connection over the continuous narrow train tracks.
It's hard to envision the destination of a daily coal train as one only experiences the ongoing process and isn't a part of where the train run ends.
Many hear the train... feel the rumbling of the train... somewhat "in communion".
"So don't sit around on your hands! No more dragging your feet! Clear the path for long-distance runners so no one will trip and fall, so no one will step in a hole and sprain an ankle. Help each other out. And run for it."
God made us to live in relationship with each other. We are heavily connected no matter what our language or culture. We rumble along at a steady pace moving towards an ultimate design. It matters that we travel together. It's imperative that we unite.
O God ... interrupt my single minded ...intended journey for today. Open my mind to how I am connected with every living creature as I rumble through my daily schedule. Forgive me when I speed too fast...endangering the route for others. Teach me the process of being coupled in compassion... linked in mercy... conjoined in peace. Your Presence is the constant Spirit that propels us to our predetermined purpose. Fill us... mold us... use us as we continue on our way... day by day
