DEVOTION: Oh Boy
By Beth Bondurand
Back to school time... and even when one thinks preparation has been fulfilled ... OH BOY!!
First one thing... then another... and when it rains ... it pours... and one wonders OH BOY!! what next!!
Could matters get any worse... OH BOY!!
Scripture describes OH BOY with words from Isaiah:
"Those who survive will sing for joy... but all I can see is doom, doom, and more doom. Terror and pits and booby traps are everywhere, whoever you are. If you run from the terror, you'll fall into the pit, if you climb out of the pit, you'll get caught in the trap. Chaos pours out of the skies. The foundations of earth are crumbling."
We cry out... GOD HELP US!
We look to the heavens for a sign of God's presence and peace.
We wait and we wonder.
O God... we are so weak in our trust and faith. Some days are made muddy with trauma and trials and we struggle to wash away the consequences of this "crumbling earth". We really know and believe where we can turn... but sometimes the booby traps clutch us so quickly and tightly, we can't move our body, mind, soul or spirit. Free us up, O Lord, and help us be able to rejoice and sing ... to give thanks and praise... even "in the pits". Renew our hearts and bring us the "peace that passes all understanding"... as we shout again... OH BOY!!
