DEVOTION: Forcibly Surrounded

By Beth Bondurant

Friends surrounded the family with words and hugs... laughter and tears... gentle reminders of yesterday, today and tomorrow... hoping to share the pain of their loss.

Shoppers surrounded the display of items ... seeking to find what they might need or want.

Music surrounded the entire atmosphere filling up heart, mind, soul and spirit with joy and motivation.

Poignant pictures on TV depict a life of struggle and simplicity for most all our surrounding world.

Comments... actions... invitations... decisions surround our computer world on the ever uniting Facebook.

"Surrounded by the crowds, the Master immediately was aware that power had gone forth... so he turned and asked... Who touched my clothes?"

Human power surrounds us constantly... pulling and pushing on our heart, mind, body and spirit. We feel forced into complying ... participating... choosing... seeing... hearing... knowing... responding... touching... judging ...accepting... or totally ignoring.

"Human wisdom is so tinny, so impotent, next to the seeming absurdity of God. Human strength can't begin to compete with God's 'weakness'."

We are literally engulfed by Divine power and presence of such great compassion and creativity, we are powerless to see or acknowledge it's bountiful force. Nonetheless it is ALWAYS WITH YOU... WITH ME... WITH EVERY LIVING CREATURE. Nothing is impossible with God... nothing separates us from God's presence and power.

O God... let me just touch the fringe of your Spirit and feel your power surge within my heart and body. The circumstance I am in is totally encompassed with your unconditional love and mercy... but this is too difficult to comprehend. If it hurts... O God... we feel alienated from goodness. Our human frailty keeps us from knowing your love is unchanging... that before we were born... you chose us as your own. Help me reach out with open hands to receive your steadfast grace in every moment of my life... no matter what is happening. Help me believe I am forcibly surrounded by absolute divinity.
