DEVOTION: Fireworks
By Beth Bondurant
Colorful explosions will be seen and heard in the next few days as we celebrate July 4, 1776... the birthing of this nation. Along with the thunderous bursts of bright sky beauty will be the recalling of both the agony and ecstasy of any momentous challenge and change.
After the wondrous flaming rainbow extravaganza of colorful display... fall out begins.
Blackened debris floats to the ground... sometimes still sizzling and smoking after each detonation. Even the most beautiful fireworks display results in some type of destructive ruin.
With the close of any day... we have experienced both the light and dark that permeates every tick of our living clock.
"Let the peace of God keep you in tune with one another. Dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline, even tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive.. always wearing love. Let God's peace keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. Sing your hearts out to God; let every detail in your lives, words, actions whatever... be done in God's name giving thanks every step of the way."
Agony and ecstasy walk hand in hand and we cling to God's presence and peace in the midst of all life's celebration.
O God... Prepare me for today... to be clothed in God's rainbow colors that highlight sensational possibilities even when the picture seems bleak. Teach me how to be ready to paint a canvas of sparkling potential in light of God's redeeming compassion. Touch my heart with faith to accept the shadows of today in the power and presence of God's renewing strength. I believe. Lord, help my unbelief.
