DEVOTION: Rest My Child

By Beth Bondurant

"Peace I leave with you... peace I give unto you... but not as the world gives..."

God's peace that passes all understanding comes even in the midst of the storms... the tireless commitment of "giving of self... the never ending 'call to serve' that comes from our faith in God's presence and power each and every moment of the day.

After a day... week... month... year or more of constant challenge... one longs for those sweet words..."Rest, my child and peace be with you".

When every bone in the body seems to ache ... when one more call for help feels overwhelming... when what to do is taxing and unthinkable... we fall into the hands of our Living Lord... and receive God's resurrecting peace.

It is part of our training... of our experience to "take time to be holy"... for restoration and rejuvenation... for listening to the quiet whispers of God's love for us... God's healing touch... God's empowerment of hope.

Nature is constant ... even in the challenges and changes of everyday... so how much more can we depend on God's Spirit to surround us with what we need... even in the heat and hardship of this very day.

O God... breathe in me your Spirit of peace and renew my heart, mind, body and soul. Allow the waters of mercy and healing to flow over and around not only me... but all your children. Thank you for entrusting me with countless possibilities to accept your love and to pass that love on to others. Continue to fill me up with grace and goodness so that it overflows in my life. When I am tired and weary... restore my Spirit of expectancy. Let me continue to hear you say: "Rest... my child and peace be with you."
